The day we landed in Israel, a war broke out. There had been a six month treaty between Israel and Palastine, but both sides broke their end of the deal. Then Israel started lobbing all sorts of firepower into Gaza.
We were far too close for comfort. We made an attempt to get tickets home, but found that people were selling their tickets for big mark-ups to get out of the country. We decided to stay. I am glad we did. It was a great “learning experience”.
For example, I now know what a flash-bang grenade is. I also know a few Arabic and Hebrew swear words (although I would never say them) and I know that tires on fire make a heck of a lot of smoke.
